In a loud and raucous PCM High School gymnasium the Mustang basketball teams took care of business last night defeating Greene County in a pair of Heart of Iowa matchups.

As heard on the KRLS3 Stream the Mustang girls’ utilized a stifling 2-3-zone defense and hot three-point shooting to roll past the Rams 53-25. Camryn Wignall was the anchor of that defense by collecting six steals on the night to help create an 18-7 lead after the first quarter and 29-9 at the break. Lilli Baird was red-hot in the first half with four triples to finish with 12 points on the night. To compliment her defensive play, Wignall got it done offensively in the second half connecting three times from behind the arc to finish with a game-high 15 points. Regan Freland was also in double figures with 13 points. PCM improves to 3-4 on the season.

In the boys’ game, it was all Mustangs from start to finish in an 83-41 thrashing of the Rams. Like the girls, the 2-3-zone defense was working to perfection for the boys resulting in many Greene County turnovers and easy transition buckets. PCM led 43-21 at the break and saw that lead continue to soar in the final two quarters. Reed Worth was spectacular with 30 points and Andrew Van Ryswyk had 20. Derek Brown was also in double figures with 11 points. The Mustangs get back above .500 to improve to 3-2 on the year.

Both squads hit the road Friday to Nevada.
