The PCM boys and girls basketball teams got a pair of wins Friday night as the Mustangs took down the Saydel Eagles 72-28 in the girls game and 63-45 in the boys contest.

On the girls side of things the Mustangs would see every member of the Mustang squad get playing time and compete in the matchup with Regan Freland setting the town on offense with her 24 points. The real stat of the game for the Mustangs was on defense though as the team finished with 28 steals.

On the boys side of things the Saydel Eagles came out firing on all cylinders and stuck with the Mustangs through most of the game only trailing by six at half 28-22. Seniors Reed Worth and Andrew Van Ryswyk would pace the Mustangs with 23 points from Worth and 20 from Van Ryswyk who opened up the season after only 9 total practices following their state championship football season. Head Coach Fred Lorensen tells KNIA/KRLS Sports the short time to prepare for the season has been a difficult challenge for his Mustangs. Lorensen says it has been overwhelming thinking about all the things you want your team to be able to do by the time you play your first game and it’s been difficult but he thinks his team will be ok and will continue to improve. The Mustangs won’t have any time to practice as they will turn right around and take on the Pella Christian Eagles in Pella on Monday night.
