There was not much doubt on who would come out on top last night in Newton, as both Pella basketball teams won convincingly against the Cardinals in a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader.

In a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS the Lady Dutch took advantage of a 20-6 run in the second quarter to open up a 37-17 lead at half and an eventual 61-31 victory. Grace Held had a big night with a game-high 16 points and Emily Holterhaus added 12. Head Coach Jerod Garland tells KRLS Sports when a few starters had to sit most of the first half due to foul trouble, he was pleased with the production from the bench.

“It was not surprising that we had girls who were able to step in because we have seen it before. Annika Peterson came in the post and did a good job and so did Bailey Van Voorst. It’s nice to see those girls continue to provide solid minutes for us.”

Pella is riding a four-game win streak and improves their record to 5-3.

The Little Dutch jumped out to a 28-11 lead after the first and never looked back en route to an 88-60 victory. It was the John Oltman show for the Little Dutch, as he was eight of 12 from long range and finished with 28 points on the night. Logan Shetterly was solid with 19 points. Pella moves their record to 5-2.

Both teams close out the first half of the season Friday traveling to Oskaloosa.
