A pair of one point games at halftime each turned into double digit wins as Indianola swept a basketball doubleheader at Pella Christian as heard live last night on 92.1 KRLS.

The Eagle girls held a 19-18 lead at halftime, but with the score tied at 21, Indianola scored the next 21 points to take command en route to a 52-31 win.

Pella Christian coach Brad Engbers says that it was a sloppy third quarter where they ran out of gas, and he told his girls afterwards that they’ll just put it behind them.

“Our kids are so positive and we have a lot of fun, and we recognize that this one game isn’t going to define us. We can still have a good season. Our motto had been ‘18-3 is what we’re going to go’, and right afterwards they said ‘17-4 doesn’t sound so bad’. So we’re trying to keep a positive attitude.”

Allison Van Gorp was responsible for well over half of Pella Christian’s offense, scoring 18 points. Isabella Baugh led the way with 12 rebounds. The Eagles fall to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the Little Hawkeye Conference.

The boys game followed a similar script. Indianola led 27-26 at half, and after a quick third quarter surge by P.C., Indianola built a nine-point advantage by the end of the frame, and led comfortably for most of the fourth quarter in a 58-47 victory.

It was a Van Gorp leading the way for the Eagle boys as well, as Josh scored 18 points and grabbed seven boards. Jayden Huisman chipped in 11.

The Pella Christian boys are 3-3 on the season and 0-3 in LHC play. Up next for both Eagle squads is a trip to Grinnell on Tuesday night.
