The US Army Corps of Engineers recommends that the public stay off any ice that has formed at Lake Red Rock.

Ice has begun to form along the shoreline and in the bays around the lake. Ice conditions are unstable due to dropping water levels.

The lake level as of December 17 is 744.49 above sea level, and water levels will continue to drop until the lake hits the normal pool elevation of 742. Receding water levels can cause ice conditions to change quickly and ice thickness to vary greatly within very short distances, and can also cause ice to slope downwards along the shoreline or break away from the shoreline, making it difficult to get back to shore once on the ice.

Due to these conditions, it is recommended that the public stay off the ice at Lake Red Rock. Addtionally, temperatures are expected to stay well above freezing during the daytime, meaning rapid melting can occur as well.
