Warren County Conservation is hosting a clinic to learn the basics of ice fishing in the new year.

Attendees will learn about equipment, safety, fish species, where to fish, and much more. Jim Priebe with Warren County Conservation tells KNIA News navigating the ice safely is priority number one.

“Anyone going out on the ice needs to be testing constantly, even if you are going back to the same spot after a day on the ice. The DNR recommends four inches of strong, clear ice as a minimum for ice fishing, and its important to keep in mind that every piece of water is different. It might have a spring, or flowing water, so you just need to check the ice regularly.”

Poles and bait will be provided, but any equipment from home can be used. Anyone age 16 or older will need a current Iowa fishing license. The clinic will take place on January 13th, with registration due by January 9th. A link to register can be found below.
