It was a tough start to 2019 for the Pleasantville basketball teams last night falling in a pair of matchups to Van Meter.

As heard on the KNIA3 Stream a 21-2 second quarter doomed the Trojan girls in a 48-22 defeat. Pleasantville was aggressive offensively in the early going trailing only 16-12 at the end of the first. Van Meter changed to a 2-3 zone and Pleasantville had no answer going cold the rest of the night. Josie Hutchings led the way with seven points while Jordan Dursky and Faith Vanderhart chipped in with five a piece. The Trojans fall to 7-5 on the season.

In the boys’ game the undefeated Bulldog zone defense was as good as advertised, holding the Trojans to six first half points en route to a 61-29 victory. Like the girls’ the second quarter was a doozy with Pleasantville failing to score and trailing 38-6 at intermission. Pleasantville had no answer down low with 6’9’’ Ryan Schmitt racking up 16 points for Van Meter. Tagen Douma was a bright spot for the Trojans with 11 points and Brady Powers adding eight. The Trojans drop to 3-7 on the season.

Both teams have no time to dwell getting back at it tonight hosting Chariton.
