After seeing a late lead melt away in the final minute and with a short bench growing even shorter, the Central College men’s basketball team got another clutch bucket from guard Jamel McKnight and an 87-84 comeback victory over Simpson College Wednesday night, as heard live on KNIAKRLS.com.

Down by as many as 12 in the first half and by 13 midway through the second, the Dutch, now 7-9 overall, and 4-3 in the American Rivers were resilient and made big runs in both frames to keep it close. Forward Kendall Brown pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds as the Central College women’s basketball team dominated the glass but were plagued by turnovers in a 61-48 loss to Simpson College Wednesday. The Dutch, now 6-10 overall and 2-5 in the American Rivers league, held Simpson 20 points under its league-leading 81.8-point average and held a 55-48 rebounding advantage.

On Saturday, the Dutch are at Dubuque to take on Loras College in a conference women’s-men’s doubleheader. Start time was moved up to noon due to forecasted difficult winter travel conditions. Saturday’s games will be broadcast on 92.1 KRLS.
