Governor Kim Reynolds outlined her agenda during the annual Condition of the State Address this week, and she made her intentions known when it comes to funding education.

Reynolds tells KRLS News she called on legislators to increase state aid by 2.3 percent in the upcoming fiscal year on a per pupil basis. Additionally, she asked the legislature to invest money into statewide STEM and the Future Ready Iowa initiative.

Pella Schools Superintendent Greg Ebeling tells KRLS News the 2.3 percent number is better than the near one percent increases received over the past few years, as the general fund for the district typically raises two-to-three percent annually.

Ebeling is hopeful the Iowa Senate and House will follow the governor’s plan for K-12 education funding during this legislative session.
