The Indianola School Board and Indianola City Council met in special joint session Monday evening, following a regular school board meeting.

In the joint session, the two bodies exchanged status information on facilities and future plans, and discussed a partnership to hire a school resource officer. The school board approved the first step in their budget, using up to $60,000 from their at-risk fund for their portion of the money. The city estimates that a school resource officer will cost $110,000 in salary and benefits, but that estimate does not include training. Both the city and school district aim to have a school resource officer in place to start the 2019-20 school year, but no official decisions have been made by either the school board or council.

In the regular session prior to the joint meeting, the school board raised textbook fees by $80 for preschool-5th grade, $100 for middle school students, and $130 for high school students, approved updates to the high school curriculum concerning the computer science and cybersecurity classes, and accepted a bid from Dynamic Fitness for $109,534.15 to remodel the weight room among other items.
