The Knoxville Fire Department held its annual appreciation dinner on Sunday night, where they presented awards to some of their outstanding personnel.

Matt Boston was named the Firefighter of the Year, and Trenton Bacus was selected as the Paramedic of the Year.

Boston tells KNIA/KRLS News this past year has kept him and his fellow firefighters busy.

“I passed my Firefighter I certifications, I got my EMT, those are the big ones; we’ve had some good fires, just the past month has been pretty exciting as far as calls,” Boston says.

Bacus just received his paramedic certification in March, and he says he feels humbled to have been chosen as Paramedic of the Year by his colleagues.

“I was excited and honored, and felt that we have a good group here, and I was surprised they all voted for me. It felt good to have the support of the whole department, and I enjoy working with everyone,” Bacus says.

Travis Delaney was named the Rookie of the Year, while Miranda Ayers was chosen as the EMT of the Year.
