The threat of heavy snow on Friday night has forced Knoxville High School to juggle the schedule for one of its biggest weekends of the year.

The girls and boys varsity games against Davis County, as well as the annual Hall of Fame induction ceremonies, will now be held tonight. The school announced the change on Wednesday; this year’s inductees are readily available for this evening, and the planned luncheon on Friday will go on as scheduled.

But one event associated with the game on Friday has fallen by the wayside; the Knoxville Education Foundation’s Chili and Soup Cook-Off scheduled to precede both games has been cancelled altogether.

David Hoke from the Foundation tells KNIA/KRLS News the logistics of moving up the event by 24 hours were too difficult to surmount, and the return on donations would also be significantly lower.

“It’ll certainly be a smaller crowd on a Thursday evening and this late change, and in order to be a productive fundraiser you obviously need the volume of folks to come through and enjoy the Chili Cook-Off and all the samples that the chefs provide,” Hoke says. “And then, rescheduling all my chefs would prove problematic, as well.”

Hoke says the Foundation will decide later if it needs to stage any sort of fundraising event for this year; in any case, the cook-off will return next year.

As of now, plans for the Coaches vs. Cancer game on Saturday night have not changed.
