Death is a scary word to many and something most people don’t like to think about, though it’s important to make sure the proper plans have been made prior to such a crisis. Saturday was National Healthcare Decisions Day which encourages all residents to make advance directives such as a healthcare power of attorney and a living will. Social worker Rhonda Thompson with HCI Care Services encourages everyone to make these plans as soon as possible. She says people of all ages should make these plans and review them each year.
Social Worker Mary Jo McLain adds that making these plans can also help make death not seem so scary or tough to talk about.
HCI Care Services is offering free advance-care packets including forms for a living will and power of attorney for health care decisions. Anyone who would like one can stop by their office on the north side of the square in Knoxville or call 842-4312.
