The Pella Municipal Airport will be undergoing some repair work later this year, following the approval of an engineering contract on the project at Tuesday’s Pella City Council meeting. The contract for the rehabilitation of runway 16/34 at the Pella Airport is with Snyder & Associates in the amount of $42,266.

Coupled with an estimated $190,000 in construction costs, the project is expected to carry an estimated $232,000 price tag. Pella City Administrator Mike Nardini says the city should receive substantial assistance on the costs, though.

“The good news for the City of Pella is on an annual basis we receive funding from the Federal Aviation Administration for improvements at our airport. Since this is a safety item – and we need to maintain a good and adequate runway out there – it is eligible for FAA entitlement funding,” said Nardini.

“The long and the short of it is, when you look at the engineering plus the construction costs at $232,000, we believe the local share of that is going to be right around $11,000, with approximately $200,000 to $221,000 coming from the Federal Aviation Administration.”

The airport rehabilitation project would involve the replacement of approximately 1,850 square yards of pavement at the runway.
