Alternative fuel tests are set to resume June 1 at the Pella Power Plant. The first phase of the project began last fall and now Electric Utility Director Larry Peterson says emission tests of wood products are scheduled to start next month. The tests were originally scheduled for early May, but Peterson says they were postponed due to weather and maintenance at the power plant. Besides wood products, Peterson says they’ve requested a variance from the DNR to test seed corn. The city of Pella is pursuing a long-term project that would convert the current facility into one fueled almost entirely by alternative fuels.
