Football season may be a couple months away, but over the next week, the top senior football players from across the state of Iowa this past season will strap on the pads and helmets and get ready to hit somebody as the 38th annual Shrine Bowl All Star football game will be played on Saturday.

In a back-and-forth match that saw two ties and three lead changes, the Pella boys soccer team was able to come through when it mattered most, as they defeated Perry last night 4-2.

Players, cheerleaders and coaches for the 38th annual 2010 Shrine Bowl All Star football game were introduced yesterday during a media day at the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Temple in Altoona and Pella senior Blaine Forsythe will be a member of the South squad.

The Pella boys qualified for their 13th State Tournament appearance in school history with their win over Norwalk in the Sub State Game Monday night and their first since 2007.

Yesterday was National signing day where high school recruits acorss the country made their official decisions when it comes to playing football at the next level and two Pella athletes did just that.

The Pella Christian boys basketball team must have felt like Bill Murray in “Groundhog Day” last night, as they found themselves repeating the same early game miscues that doomed them in the first meeting and again leaving them unable to recover from an early deficit to Pella.

The Pella boys basketball team is now 4-1 going into Friday’s meeting with cross-town rival Pella Christian; and the team’s unselfish play and even scoring distribution is one of the reason for the team’s success.

Though they trailed by as many as nine at one point in the fourth quarter, the Pella boys basketball team was able to claw their way back into the game to force overtime before gutting out a 61-58 extra period victory over rival Oskaloosa last night.

After a sluggish first half that included several penalties and little offense, the Pella football team was able to find some success in the final two quarters to pick up all three of their scores in a 21-0 win over Norwalk Friday night.
