Central Hosts Luther Today for Homecoming

Posted: Saturday, October 10th, 2015 at 5:50 am

Central College’s football team returns home for the first time in more than a month, and it’s homecoming for the Dutch as they welcome Luther to Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium. Each team is 2-2 overall and 0-1 in Iowa Conference play. The Dutch were beaten by Wartburg last Saturday in Waverly, 21-13, while the Norse lost to Dubuque, 16-14. While some fans might be focusing on Luther’s triple-option attack that averages the fourth most rushing yards per game in the country, over 360, or Central’s big play ability, with four plays over 75 yards this season, Dutch head coach Jeff McMartin says that it’s something seemingly much smaller that might have just as big of an impact today – extra points. “They dramatically altered the game on Saturday, not in the way we wanted it to. So, we need to be on task and do a good job. They’re going to try to block all of our kicks, and they’re really good at it. We have to protect well, field goals and extra points. They blocked one against Dubuque, and put a lot of pressure on their kicker. We’ve got to be good there. Central also missed an extra point in its season opening loss to Benedictine, and while each team scored three touchdowns, the Dutch lost by two points because of that failed PAT. We’ll have live coverage of today’s Central – Luther contest on 92.1 KRLS, www.kniakrls.com and our free KRLS mobile app, beginning with our www.PellaMotors.com Radio Pregame Show at 12:35. Kickoff is 1:00.
