Beginning next week, when Iowa residents go to acquire or renew their drivers license they will not be leaving the treasurer’s office with a new plastic ID. According to Marion County Treasurer Denise Emal, as of April 19th the state of Iowa will implement central issuance for their photo identifications. The purpose of the change is to add new security features to the licenses that will help protect against fraud. This means that when Iowans go to get a new license they will receive a temporary paper card that will be good for 30 days, and will mailed their new plastic license in the mail within 7 to 10 days.
