They may have only sent one wrestler to the NCAA Division III national wrestling championships in Cedar Rapids, but the Central College grapplers may have done a more impressive feat in moving the program forward.

The Central wrestling team will be represented in Cedar Rapids in two weeks at the NCAA Division III national tournament, as sophomore Daniel Page was second in his weight class on Saturday at the regional tournament in Dubuque.

Dubuque is the home of the Central Regional NCAA Division III wrestling regional tournament this morning, and the No. 28 ranked Central Dutch are looking to advance as many grapplers as possible.

Their last action against an opponent was February 8 against Loras in the Iowa Conference Finals, but the Central wrestling team is not worried about the long period of time between their regular season finale and their upcoming NCAA Division III regional tournament on March 2.

After dropping out of the rankings in late January, the Central wrestling team is once again nationally recognized, sporting a No. 28 ranking in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association poll.

It came down to the last match, but Central’s wrestling team fell to Loras 20 – 18 on Friday night in the Iowa Conference Duals Finals.

The Dutch wrestlers won five of their first six matches, and upset a nationally ranked NCAA Division III opponent for the first time in almost eight years, with a 27 – 11 win over No. 19 St. Olaf College this past Wednesday.
