Central College’s Cheri Doane, director of community-based learning, has been appointed by Gov. Kim Reynolds to the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service.

This 25-member group helps organizations mobilize and leverage volunteers for the benefit of all Iowans. Doane, previously appointed to the commission by former Gov. Chet Culver, said she looks forward to serving again with the diverse and creative group. Doane has been leading Central’s service-learning programs ever since graduating as a non-traditional student in 1998 and while completing her master’s degree from Iowa State University.

“Iowa can really only reach its potential with true involvement of its citizens,” said Doane. “As a lifelong Iowan, I’m proud of our state’s history of becoming stronger through citizen involvement, and being on the commission is a way I celebrate that. We want to help all Iowans reach their potential.”
