After an emotional week following the death of Pella sophomore Blake Van Vark, the Pella High Lady Dutch saw their season come to an end with a 72-60 loss at Williamsburg in the Class 3A Regional Semifinal Saturday night.

A night that began with somber faces and a few tears quickly turned to smiles and cheers for members and fans of the Pella High girls basketball team, as the Lady Dutch assembled an emotional 58-30 win over Knoxville Wednesday evening in the Class 3A Regional Tournament Quarterfinals.

The Lady Dutch couldn’t find their shot until the second half, but the defense was never in doubt as they went on to be Carlisle Saturday night, 39-21.

The Lady Dutch frustrated the Knoxville offense all night and Pella earned a birth in round 2 of the Class 3A Regional Tournament Wednesday night with a 47-26 victory.

Mackenzie Anthony delivered an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning to score Lisa Hauser, and Pella claimed a 1-0 victory over Centerville Saturday night in the opening round of the class 3A Region 7 softball tournament.
