November 9th likely feels like years ago for the five young ladies on the 2010 Tulip Time Royal Court, who were selected by a panel of judges to represent the community in the months leading up to and during this year’s event.
A crowd of around 200 people filled the seats of the Pella Community Center Auditorium Tuesday evening to watch Tulip Queen Heidi Schulte and the Royal Court deliver their Tulip Time program for the first time in Pella.
As with nearly every team across the state, the end of a particular sports season marks the final bow for the team’s senior leaders, and it is certainly no different for the Pella girls basketball team.
The Pella girls basketball team relies on a strong post game to set the foundation for their offense, but the Lady Dutch backcourt can also light it up from the perimeter if the opportunities present themselves.
For the first time in the last two weeks, the Pella girls basketball team found themselves in a relatively tight ball game last night, but were able to come away with a 47-41 victory against visiting South Tama.
A packed auditorium of approximately 750 people was on hand Monday night at Pella Christian High School to see Heidi Schulte named as the 2010 Tulip Time Queen. Heidi is the daughter of Matt and Carol Schulte. Schulte said it was hard to put into words how she felt when her name was announced as Tulip Queen.
“This is just so unreal and I’m so blessed that the Lord gave me this opportunity with these girls tonight and for the rest of the year,” said Schulte after the announcement.
Joining Schulte on the Royal Court are Morgan Anderson, Courtney Kelderman, Bekah Posthuma, and Sarah Van Gorp.
The Royal Court was selected from twelve outstanding finalists by a panel of nearly three dozen judges who faced a difficult selection process. The candidates were judged on their interviews one-on-one with the judges and on stage, their poise, personality, appearance, and voice. Schulte says her experience with the other candidates was her favorite part of the evening.
Also included in the ceremony was a presentation by Morgan Kuiper, the 2009 Tulip Queen. Kuiper shared stories and photographs of the many events and locations she and the Royal Court visited in 2009.
Heidi Schulte and the 2010 Royal Court will represent Pella and Tulip Time at several events leading up to and surrounding the Tulip Time celebration.
