According to Marion County Attorney Ed Bull crime is on the rise throughout Marion County.

Over the past 100 days, 30 individuals were sentenced to incarceration as a result of cases originating in Marion County. Eight other individuals were sentenced to halfway houses or treatment facilities.

Bull tells KNIA/KRLS News he fears the problem is only going to get worse. Bull says, we have seen an explosion of offenses related to illegal substances. We have been warned over the past several years that heroin is coming–it is now here. With added illegal substances in our community the result has been increased crimes such as theft, burglary, and forgery, the type of crime that is used to fuel the addiction epidemic.

Due to the increase in crime Bull says his office, the chiefs of police, the sheriff, fire chiefs, EMS, local media, business and community leaders will start to hold meetings in consultation with the Partnership with Drug-Free Iowa, to develop local, comprehensive solutions to combat the epidemic. If Marion County residents are interested in participating in the meetings they are encouraged to contact Marion County Attorney Ed Bull directly.
