Dennis Van Gorp at Van Gorp Insurors in Pella says that farmers need to keep very good records of their corn harvest this year. He says harvests are beginning and he has seen yields as high as 160 bushels per acre and as low as 3 per acre. 60 to 40 bushels has been the average. Van Gorp says those farmers who have crop insurance will be fine, those without might be in trouble. One good thing he has seen, is that aflatoxin hasn’t been as big of an issue as was previously expected.
