The Iowa Central Women’s Cross Country Squad has been one of the strongest juco programs in the nation, and last week the Tritons proved that once again with the help of a couple of former Marion County preps.

With a very deep boys cross country squad this season, chosing a seven person roster for the post season was a bit difficult for Pella coach Doug Cutler, but he says they believe they have the seven best runners set to go for today’s District meet in Knoxville.

The Pella Christian cross country squads, as well as PCM will also be competing at Knoxville today in a Class 2A District/Regional meet and the Eagle boys squad is going in with expectations of winning the meet according to coach Jocelyn Meinders.

The Pella Christian boys Cross Country team finished their regular season strong last night winning the Chariton Invitational, while a shorthanded girls squad finished fifth.

The Pella Christian boys cross country team turned in another great performance yesterday at Centerville finishing fourth behind Knoxville, Ottumwa, and Fort Madison, while the girls, shorthanded, finished 10th.

After qualifying for the NCAA Division III national championship for the first time in 27 years, the Central College women’s cross country team delivered another milestone performance Saturday, placing 19th in the 32-team field.

Not only was the Knoxville Boys Cross Country Squad one of the top team in the state…the guys also were outstanding in the classroom as well. The team cumulative grade point average was three-point-six this semester. The Panthers are guaranteed to receive an all-state academic award…but Coach Mike Moats says this is likely the highest the team G-P-A has ever been. He says it shows that the guys number one focus is success in the classroom and secondly success on the course.
