The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has amended their request for proposals for an enhanced use lease (EUL) for the Knoxville VA campus. The amendment, dated Wednesday, extends the proposal submission deadline until 10am eastern standard time on March 8th, three weeks after the initial due date. However the amendment states that questions about the request for proposals (RFP) may not be considered after the original due date of February 15th.

Maina Gakure, with the Department of Veterans Affairs who is serving as Portfolio Manager for the Knoxville EUL, says typically EUL proposals are posted for 90 to 120 days due to the level of details demanded by the specific requirements of the RFP. Knoxville’s RFP was posted on December 8th which means the original due date was only 60 days later. Gakure says he has dealt with several EUL RFPs and was not surprised when some potential bidders requested more time to submit their proposals. In addition, he says the VA was hoping to have received and share the phase II environmental report with the registered bidders but unfortunately it has been delayed. Gakure says it is the intent of the Government to select the proposal and there will be no unfair advantage as a result of the extension.
