The Iowa Department of Natural Resources recently conducted an investigation of the Knoxville Wastewater Treatment Plant after complaints were filed in regards to the transporting and application of sewage sludge that is spread on a piece of city owned land.

A man from Vinton suffered a non life-threatening injury when he apparently accidentally shot himself in the calf when holstering his handgun early Saturday afternoon while hunting. Marion County DNR Conservation Officer John Mertz says that the accident occurred near 140th and Hwy 14. The man who has yet to be identified was transported to Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines by Pella Ambulance. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol, and the DNR responded. The DNR is continuing its investigation into the incident. KNIA KRLS will have more information as soon as it becomes official.
