Donny Schatz won his fifth Knoxville Nationals Saturday night at the 51st running of the top sprint car event in the world. Schatz dominated the last half of the 50 lap race and took home the $150,000 top prize.

Schatz started 13th in the championship race and was up to fifth in three laps, and had claimed the lead by the mandatory fuel stop at lap 27. After the restart, Schatz set sail, gaining the lead back from Daryn Pittman on lap 29, however he had to hold off Shane Stewart, who for the third time of the Nationals, came from the back of a race to nearly pull off the win.

Schatz said in victory lane that if the race was 51 or 52 laps he might have had to settle for second place. Stewart claimed second with Sammy Swindell in third, Tim Shaffer was fourth and Daryn Pittman was fifth with Mark Dobmeier sixth as the highest finishing Knoxville Regular.
