Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada wants to remind residents that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Losada tells KNIA/KRLS news that businesses in the area have notified his department that they’ve received Nigerian email scams recently. He says these scams work in a variety of ways by either asking for the recipients banking information in order to smuggle money into the U.S., tell them they have won a prize and all they need to do is send the money for taxes or ask for money to help bail a child out of a foreign jail. Losada says residents should always be hesitant to share personal information with a stranger and be aware that these types of messages are typically scams.
