FEMA is committed to working with Attica officials in building a new fire station and community center, following a dispute earlier this week regarding FEMA’s involvement in the new construction. An F2 tornado destroyed the building and other property last year. Bret Voorhees is with the State of Iowa Homeland Security Emergency Management Division. He tells KNIA/KRLS News that FEMA and state officials will pay for the new construction, up to 1,800 square feet, whatever amount the insurance company doesn’t cover for the building. Attica officials had submitted plans for a building larger than 1,800 square feet.
