New girls basketball rankings have been released from IGHSAU.org yesterday, with a couple of our area teams moving up the ladder.

The Pella Lady Dutch, compiling a 5-1 record thus far, have jumped up from their previous 5 spot, to the #4 team in Class 3A.  Pella was able to do this by beating Oskaloosa earlier this week, and they got help as Dallas Center-Grimes dropped their first game of the season.

South Tama, meanwhile, remains undefeated (9-0) and moved up one spot to claim the #9 position in Class 3A. The Trojans continued their early dominance with a win over Pella Christian earlier this week.

Tonight, South Tama will make the trip south, to Pella, in a game that pits the top two, and only undefeated teams left in the Little Hawkeye Conference against each other.

Pella girls head coach Jerod Garland says South Tama is an extremely tough team to guard and you almost have to pick your poison. He says it’s difficult to decide whether to front Madison Baier and try to shut her down, or shift your attention to South Tama’s guards, who are dangerous from the perimeter.

It will, without a doubt, be Pella’s toughest test since they opened the season against Ballard.

It’ll be another girl-boy doubleheader on KNIAKRLS.com tonight, as South Tama visits Pella. The pre-game is set for 6PM and the tip-off scheduled for 6:15PM. The boys game will follow. Eric Grillaert and Randy Sikkema will provide the call.

Pella girls and boys enter the game with 5-1 records. The South Tama girls are undefeated, while the boys are still looking for their first win of the season.
