The Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation has created a scholarship honoring a Marion County bird expert and nature lover. The Gladys Black Scholarship Fund will give out scholarships each year to Marion County residents or students who attend a Marion County High School. Applicants must be graduation seniors who plan to major in either a conservation or natural resources field in college.

Scholarships will range between 250 and 1000 dollars. Applications are available at guidance offices in Marion County High Schools, and recipients may apply to renew the scholarship each year they are in college.

The funds for the scholarship comes from contributions that were used to purchase and protect the Gladys Black Bald Eagle Refuge. When money came in above and beyond the fundraising goal, the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation used the funds to create an endowed scholarship honoring Gladys Black.
