Fire crews have responded to numerous grass fires over the past week.

On Wednesday, crews were dispatched to fires near Monroe, Tracy, and Harvey. The fire in the 1900 block of Quebec near Tracy resulted in the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the Knoxville Rural Fire Department, Knoxville Fire and Rescue, Bussey Fire, Clay Township Fire, Columbia Fire, and possibly other agencies responding to the scene. Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department Chief Kenny Thompson tells KNIA/KRLS News, right now is not a good time to have a fire or try to burn. Thompson wants residents to hold off until after we have significant rain or it greens up before having a fire. Thompson adds that if you do choose to have a fire, make sure you have a water suppression system near by and to not burn when it’s windy.
