The Norwalk boys and girls wrestling teams, as well as the boys and girls bowling teams, all competed on Saturday.

The boys wrestlers finished ninth out of 13 teams at the Baltzley Invitational in Johnston, scoring 91 points. Southeast Polk won the tournament with 269.

The Warriors had seven place-winners on the day, led by 113-pound champion Tyler Harper. Harper won a pair of decisions, including a 5-2 victory over Indianola’s Max Crossen in the finals. Norwalk heavyweight Kolton Borcherding-Johnson also reached the finals and placed second following a loss by fall to Southeast Polk’s Cooper Martinson. Harrison Tripp placed fourth at 215, going 2-2 with two pins, and Liam McLaughlin was fifth at 150, going 3-2 with one pin.

The Norwalk girls competed at the Ankeny Centennial Duals and finished eighth with an 0-5 record. The Warriors lost to Ankeny (78-3), Mason City (60-21) and Woodward-Granger (36-27) in the preliminary round, then lost to Pella (48-18) and Indianola (36-18) in the consolation bracket.

Madison Froehle earned three of Norwalk’s eight match wins on the day – all by decision. Madelyn Carroll and Katie Liedtke both won twice by pin and Maggie Evans added one pin.

The Norwalk boys will host Newton and Southeast Warren for a double dual on Tuesday at 5:30. The Norwalk girls will compete in the Battle of Waterloo starting at 9 a.m. on Thursday.

BOWLING RECAP

The Norwalk bowling teams both lost to Oskaloosa on Saturday in dual competition at Air Lanes in Des Moines. The Indians won the boys’ meet 2743-2588 and took the girls’ meet 2154-1951. Warrior head coach Russell Greenwood noted that both of his squads trailed by less than 50 pins going into the Baker games portion of the meet.

Andrew Winfrey led the Norwalk boys with a two-game series of 394 and posted a strike/spare conversion rate of over 90 percent during Baker games. Julia Palen paced the Norwalk girls with a 319 series and converted a tough 6-7 split for a spare in her top game of 171.

Both Norwalk teams are now 1-3 on the season. They will face Pella on Saturday, December 16, in a 1 p.m. dual at Newton.
