Over the last two weeks, farmers in Marion County have taken advantage of the nice weather. Matt Kauffman from Key Cooperative tells KNIA/KRLS News that so far it has been a pretty good harvest. Farmers are around 80 percent complete with their harvest of beans and they are getting around 55 bushels per acre. Kauffman also said that due to the nicer weather recently, farmers have been focused more on beans than they have been on corn because they need nicer weather to harvest beans. Corn yields are still down considerably from last year with farmers getting about 150 bushels per acre this year. Farmers have finished about 15 percent of their corn harvest and it is all expected to be completed by the last week in October.
