As the weather continues to get colder, residents are forced to turn up the heat in their homes. The good news is local energy companies say there should not be in an increase in heating costs this winter.

Alliant Energy Spokesperson Justin Foss tells KNIA/KRLS news gas bills will be similar to last season and possibly decrease due to a large amount of supply and low demand since there weren’t major hurricanes this year.

Ann Thelen, Director of Communications and Media Relations at MidAmerican Energy echoes Foss’s comments and says pipeline infrastructure has continued to expand which enables more natural gas to be transported to various markets. Thelen they have been buying natural gas at prices comparable to last year and placing it in storage for use by its customers during this heating season.
