Knoxville Begins 2016 With 2 Losses In Newton

Knoxville was swept by Newton in basketball Saturday. The girls fell to the Cardinals 60-37 in a game that Coach Jim Uitermarkt told KNIA/KRLS Sports the girls just did not have the needed energy all game. Ricki Hall led with 12 points while Shaye Nichols and Carrie Chambers scored eight points. Knoxville falls to 5-3 on the season. The boys got off to a slow start but made a run to trim the deficit to five after Patrick Crawford nailed a three just before halftime, but Newton kept Knoxville at bay for a 71-60 victory. Knoxville did trim the lead in the fourth quarter to two on a 7-0 run, but Newton responded with a 13-0 spurt to put the game away. Blake McClung led the Panthers with 14 points and Chase Larson had 13. Knoxville is now 4-3, both teams will travel to Centerville on Tuesday.

PCM Survives Knoxville 3 At The Buzzer For Win

In a game that the shots were hard to come by, P-C-M had to sweat out a three point try at the buzzer by Knoxville and hang on for a 48-46 win over the Panthers Saturday night in boys basketball. The Mustangs got the go ahead and what would be the game winner on a layup by Logan Gilman with 15 seconds remaining and watched as Cade McNeill’s three bounced off the rim as time expired. P-C-M Coach Fred Lorensen told KNIA/KRLS Sports his team made several attempts to take the lead in a game that was hard fought to the end. Panthers Coach Jeff Larson said McNeill got a good look and just missed. Gilman led all scorers with 23 points while Chase Larson led Knoxville with 17 points. Knoxville heads into the break at 4-2 while P-C-M is 6-2.
