Knoxville split its games at the Oskaloosa Softball Invitational Saturday as the Panthers fell to Eddyville-Blakesburg 11-6 and then came back to defeat Clarinda 7-2.

The Knoxville Softball Squad had a disappointing day at the Centerville Invitational Saturday going 0-3 on the day. The Panthers fell to Davis County 7-2, Carlisle 13-3, and Moravia 8-2. Coach Steph Christner is hopeful that her team can improve everyday by using the five-percent rule. Knoxville is now 1-4 on the season and have a couple of days off before opening up Little Hawkeye Conference play Wednesday night at Pella Christian.

It is not always the case in softball when the pitcher also leads the team in R-B-I’s…but that is what exactly Mckenzie Welch did this season for the P-C-M Mustangs. While Welch was throwing well in the circle her bat was also used to knock in a team leading 34 R-B-I’s, she was second on the team with 30 hits with one home run, and had the second best batting average at 405. In the circle welch was solid with a 2.39 E-R-A, and opponents batted just 162 against her. P-C-M finished the season 16-13 and finished in the class 2A regional semi-finals.
