For children around the area, tonight is the big night; they’ll be dressing up and roaming the streets, celebrating Beggar’s Night on the night before Halloween.

Hours will be identical in nearly all areas; Knoxville, Pella, Indianola, Pleasantville, Monroe, Melcher-Dallas and Prairie City will have their hours from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

One notable exception is Bussey, which will observe the holiday on Wednesday night from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Drivers are being urged by authorities to beware as they navigate the streets tonight; some children could go running into the street without watching, and those behind the wheel need to be cautious.

Parents in turn are urged to stay with their children as they walk the streets, travel in groups when possible and keep a close eye on their kids when they approach a door. They should also avoid having children wear masks or costumes which obscure their vision.
