The Iowa DNR reports that recent high temperatures have reduced the quality of ice in central and southern Iowa, and they encourage no ice fishing below Highway 20. They also suggest that given the above normal temperatures projected for the next 14 days, ice fishing may be over for central and southern Iowa for the winter. Marion County Sheriff Ron Goemaat tells KNIA/KRLS News that anglers should avoid area lakes and ponds for the foreseeable future. Goematt adds, “It’s simply not worth the risk.”
