Katy-did’s General store in Bussey, the town’s only general store, may be at even greater risk of foreclosure.

The store faces closing because of medical bills related to the death of the previous owner, Kathy Evans. Daughter Candy Evans tells KNIA/KRLS News that the auctioneer has denied her bid for Katy-did’s, Evan’s home and her late mother’s home. She has made a counter offer, but says she feels that the Department of Human Services wants to take all the money the community has raised and still go to auction with some of the property. She also feels that the inventory of the store is threatened and the transfer of the store from her mother to her has been called into question. A hearing will take place at 10:30am March 18 at the Mahaska County courthouse. The auction is set for April 9.
