The Knoxville Education Association (KEA) submitted its initial proposal for salary and insurance increases in the new fiscal year to the Knoxville School Board at their Monday meeting.

Knoxville’s teachers are asking for a six percent increase in funding for salaries and benefits. In a prepared statement a representative from the association told the board that in order to attract and maintain high quality educators at the school, salaries and benefits need to remain competitive. Knoxville Superintendent Cassi Pearson tells KNIA/KRLS News the Association’s request is a on par with or even a little down from previous years. Pearson says the KEA is sensitive to budget limitations considering the state is experiencing a revenue crunch. The Board will consider the request and make a counter proposal at a special meeting scheduled for Tuesday, January 31.
