Day one of the State Co-Ed Track and Field Meet was a success for Marion County athletes as 34 events were in action and 13 of those earned medals, including one state championship.

The Pella boys golf team picked a perfect time to shine as they won the Class 3A Sectional Golf meet at Willow Creek in Des Moines yesterday shooting a 304, three strokes better than three time defending state champions Ballard who finished second with a 307. Knoxville finished fourth with a 342 led by Blake McWilliams with an 84 and saw their season come to an end.

The Pella and Knoxville boys golf teams will head back to Willow Creek in West Des Moines today to complete the Class 3A Sectional meet which was postponed due to rain on Wednesday last week.

The Pella Boys Track team completed an undefeated season by winning the Class 3A District Track Meet at South Tama last night with 159 points compared to second place Vinton Shellsburg’s 113 and tied a school record by qualifying 15 events for next week’s State Track and Field Meet. Knoxville finished third and qualified eight events for state.

The Pella girls track team finished fifth at yesterday’s Class 3A Regional Track and Field meet at South Tama and locked in five events for next weeks girls State Track and Field Meet , while Knoxville girls finished seventh and locked in one event so far for the state meet.

Pella’s doubles team of Jared Gerber and Max Weseman finished second in yesterday’s Class 1A District tennis meet held at Pella Christian and earned a trip to the Class 1A State Doubles Tennis Tournament May 28th and 29th in Waterloo.

Grinnell scored 42 points to win the LHC Boys Tennis Tournament on their home courts yesterday, Pella finished second with 38, Knoxville was fifth with 16 points and Pella Christian finished seventh with six points. The Tigers also claimed the regular season conference title last week.

In their final tune up before today’s Sectional meet, the Pella boys golf team continued their recent success winning their final conference triangular over Oskaloosa and Norwalk with a 155, Oskaloosa was second with a 162 and Norwalk shot a 163. With the win, Pella also wins the LHC regular season dual meet title.

The Pella Christian girls finished second in a triangular with Newton and Knoxville at the Pella Golf and Country Club yesterday in their final outing of the regular season. Newton showed why they were the LHC Tournament champs last week as they shot a 189 to win, Pella Christian shot a 213 and Knoxville totaled 246.

The Pella boys completed an undefeated regular season scoring 154.5 points to win the Little Hawkeye Conference Track and Field Meet on a cold, wet night in Newton last night, Knoxville was second with 106 and Pella Christian finished third with 66 points.
