The Knoxville Rescue Department will be borrowing an ambulance from Mercy of Des Moines this week to help cover any extra calls they may receive due to the large amount of people in town. Interim Fire Chief Greg Higginbotham says that the green Mercy ambulance will be staffed by Knoxville Rescue staff and will only be used if the two Knoxville Ambulances are already in use. Many times Knoxville ambulances are used to transport patients to Pella, Des Moines, or even Iowa City at times. The City Council approved the purchase of a third ambulance for the department this week, but Higginbotham says that it would take about two-to-three months for their order to process and be received.
