The weather may have been gloomy, but what took place at Caldwell Park Friday morning was the exact opposite for the Pella High boys’ tennis team, as they easily won their district tournament by 15 points over second-place Grinnell, 31 – 16. The districts not only determined which teams would move to substate, but also, who would advance to the state tournament in both singles and doubles. Michael Schemm finished second to earn himself district runner-up honors and a spot at the state tournament. Meanwhile, it was an all-Pella final in the doubles, and the team of David Lapthorn and Jamison Roozeboom defeated their counterparts Tom Palmer and Aaron Van Maanen to take first place. Coach Nick Seipel told KNIA/KRLS Sports that both teams actually had no problem getting to the finals, as each of his teams flawlessly won in consecutive sets in the semifinals, 6 – 0, 6 – 0. Pella’s boys are off for a week before they head to Maharishi for the sub-state, looking to qualify their team as a whole for the state tournament.
