The baseball/softball teams in the Little Hawkeye Conference get the advantage of “extra time” to prepare for the Mustangs and Fillies of Dallas Center-Grimes to enter the conference when they start play again in 2014. “THE Class 2A school,” as Nate Van Wyk of Pella Christian softball put it, will be facing a big added challenge with the 3A/4A powerhouse of D-C-G coming in. Van Wyk says it will be tough. The Fillies have some tough pitching, Van Wyk said, Norwalk graduated several seniors but have some decent pitching returning, which is where it all starts, the Eagles’ coach stressed. Van Wyk also mentioned Oskaloosa’s pitching and the youth of Knoxville returning, and when you put all of that together, the Little Hawkeye Conference in 2014, at least on the softball side, will be a battle each game. The Eagles’ skipper said he’d like to think his squad would be in the mix next year with the team he has coming back and the improvements they are going to make.
