The PCM Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams will kick off their seasons tonight at Williamsburg.

There will be 14 schools competing for the girls meet and 15 teams total for the boys. Among those teams are the Williamsburg girls, who are ranked #2 in class 2A to start the season.

The Mustangs only have one senior combined between the boys and girls teams, but they also have several experienced runners coming back this season, one of them being Abi Teeter, who qualified for state last year as a freshman. The girls will also be returning senior Tiffani Koonce, who qualified as a freshman but had to miss all of last year due to health concerns.

PCM XC Coach Eric Carr gave high praise for his team and talked about the hard work that it takes to compete on the cross country course

“It’s a sport where you have to work beyond what most people understand for very limited credit and what that means is, this community they’re well aware of what the girls cross country team can do and what’s coming up on the boys side but it’s not a sport that people understand in terms of you don’t just go every Friday night and watch the cross county race.”

The Williamsburg meet starts at 4:30 pm.
