Competing in the two-day Dutch Masters Invitational, the Pella Christian boys golf team opened in fifth place and Pella sits in ninth after Friday’s opening round in the 11-team tournament.

The first day of the event was held at Bos Landen Golf Course, where the Eagles posted a team score of 334 and the Dutch scored a 344 as a team. Washington leads the field after the opening round with a score of 312, followed by ADM, Nevada, and West Delaware.

Individually, Eliot Menninga leads the Eagles after the first 18 holes. The junior posted a 42 on the front nine holes and a 35 on the back nine to end the opening day of play in a four-way tie for third place. Cooper Spronk shot an 81 on Friday and is tied for 10th place, Deacon Branderhorst is tied for 27th with an 86, and Isaiah Breems is tied for 37th with a 90. Carter Brand and Landon Fransman rounded out the scoring for Pella Christian on day one, scoring a 92 and a 107 respectively.

For the Dutch, KJ Besick leads the way after posting an 81 in the opening round and is tied for 10th place individually. Cade McGinley shot an 83 Friday and is tied for 19th, Cole Floden is tied for 27th with an 86, Patrick Bishara is tied for 47th with a 94, Simon Thoreson is in 51st with a 95, and AJ Hoekstra is 55th with a 99. 

Day two of the Dutch Masters Invitational continues today at 8:30 am at the Pella Country Club.
