A two hour trek to Eagle Grove didn’t stop the Pella Christian girls soccer team from playing as well as they had all season in a 1-0 victory over No. 9 Holy Trinity Friday in the 1A Regional Semifinals. Head Coach Mike Buchheit says they played perhaps their best defensive game to date, holding the Crusaders to just two shots on goal. In the 69th minute, the Eagles landed the decisive blow, as an Avey Amelse breakaway was deflected to the far post, where Mira Ford knocked in her third career goal. Buchheit says Holy Trinity was the highest ranked opponent in 1A the Eagles have defeated since he restarted the program five years ago. The win advances Pella Christian to the Regional Finals Monday night, where they will play Nevada for the chance to go to the state tournament.
