Pella Corporation hosted over 100 fifth through eighth grade students this past Tuesday evening for an event that promotes an interest in engineering. “Explore Engineering” was organized by the Partnership for Engineering Educational Resources for Schools (PEERS), which is a collaborative effort between Pella Corporation, 3M and all three of the state’s public universities.

The event utilized a variety of displays and hands-on activities to encourage students to consider furthering their education in engineering. Aharon Moody is a member of a robotics team from Oskaloosa High School, and helped out with Tuesday’s event. He says there is value in exposing students to engineering at an earlier age.

“Getting exposure early on gets them interested in it, and then when it comes time that they’re able to actually do it, they’re more likely to get into the program and do stuff like this.”

Along with approximately 110 students, roughly 90 parents also attended Tuesday’s event.
